6 Things You Need To Know About The Brazilian Football Team Involved In Colombia Plane Crash


The world on Tuesday November 29 woke up to the sad news of the crash of a plane carrying 81 people including a 22 man squad of Brazilian side Chapecoense to Medellin airport, Colombia when it fell from the sky after suffering electrical problems.
This plane crash has left the world in shock and tributes have been pouring in for the victims of one of football’s worst disasters
Here are some facts about the team.
1.) Associação Chapecoense de Futebol was founded in 1973 in Chapeco, Santa Catarina
2.) They have played in the Brazilian top flight since the 2014/15 season, playing home matches at the Arena Conda.
3.) The team colours are green and white
4.)  Chapecoense have won the Santa Catarina State Championship five times – first in 1977 and most recently in 2016.
5.) It made history this year when they reached the finals of the Copa Sudamericana 2016 after defeating San Lorenzo de Almagro using the away goals rule.
6.) Due to the crash, the 2016 Finals in which the team were due to play was suspended indefinitely. Their opponents, Atletico Nacional of Colombia, offered to concede the tie to allow Chapecoense to be awarded the championship.
